Complete Beginner's Guide to Perler Beads

Perler beads are a beloved craft for all ages. By arranging colorful plastic beads into patterns and fusing them with an iron, you can create beautiful decorations.

What Are Perler Beads?

Perler beads are approximately 5mm plastic beads. Arrange them on pegboards and apply heat to fuse them together.

Essential Tools

1. Fuse Beads

Major brands: Perler (USA), Hama (Sweden), Artkal (China). Start with mixed color sets.

2. Pegboards

Templates for arranging beads. Square boards are most common.

3. Iron

Any household iron works. Set temperature to 160-180°C.

4. Ironing Paper

Prevents beads from sticking to the iron.

Steps to Create Your First Project

Step 1: Choose a Simple Pattern

Start with patterns under 20x20 beads.

Step 2: Arrange Beads

Place beads carefully on the pegboard following your pattern.

Step 3: Iron

1. Preheat iron to 160°C
2. Cover with ironing paper
3. Iron evenly for 10-15 seconds
4. Cool for 1 minute before removing

Troubleshooting

Beads won't stick: Increase temperature or extend time.
Project warps: Iron both sides evenly, flatten while cooling.

Happy crafting!
